Truth About Lies

In classical art, an image is a reflection of reality, it tells the truth about the truth. However, postmodernist philosophers reject the existence of a universal truth. Therefore, if there is no truth in the modern world, art starts talking about lies. The work seeks to reflect the diversity of subjective world and talk about intangible concepts, fantasies and hallucinations, visualizing the philosophy and the world of postmodernity.

The project offers to touch the world of lies, so that you can explore your own fallacies and phantoms. Looking at a paradoxical world where lie becomes truth, you can redefine your perception of reality. In the project, reality is constructed through analysis and inclusion of symbols based on the basic concepts of postmodernism such as desire, simulacrum, hyperreality, transgression, deconstruction, interpretation.

Lies are an integral part of the interpretation. In the terminology of postmodernism, it means conscious rejection of the idea of universal ideals and suggests a unique world of one’s fallacies. The key role of interpretation in the perception of the world leads to the inability of talking about the truth; one can only talk truthfully about lies.

Interpretation also extends to the perception of one’s own identity. In the process of self-interpretation, one generates images of himself/herself, phantasms that reflect the desired ideal. By means of simulacra (hallucinations, phantasms, phantoms of mental states, etc.) desire creates a postmodern reality, giving one imaginary goals. Lies are perceived as the supreme good to which one shall strive, it is the engine that makes one create and act.

In the modern society of postmodernity, simulacra displace existing concepts and sensations, they blur the boundary between the real and the imaginary. Simulacra form a hyperreality, i.e. an illusory perception of reality. When the number of simulacra reaches a certain limit, lies start to be perceived as truth.

Modern society lives in an artificial environment of hyperreality, where one is surrounded by phantoms and simulacra of real phenomena and objects. This leads to the fact that one’s very ego becomes but a fantasy. Under such conditions, an individual turns into a puppet moving at the behest of a chaos of desires. In the project, the chaos of the surrounding world is based on symbols of everyday life, the life of postmodernism in its vanity and the reality of deception. The project visualizes the state of rest and the contrast of motion through the perception of phantasms and their copies.

Postmodernism is a modern philosophy speaking about the truth of lies, based on fallacies and paradoxes of modern man.

How to find freedom in the reality made of lies and the truth about them?
